President Faye orders a work plan to strengthen the economy

President Bassirou Diomaye Faye of Senegal has instructed his prime minister to present an urgent work plan to strengthen the economy and the financial sector.

A statement issued by the office of the 44-year-old leader who came to power with a promise to bring about major and rapid reforms, said Faye has asked Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko to conduct a major review of programs and plans and submit a report on the financial status of the country, organizations ofinternational and joint ventures between the government and the private sector.

This is the first order of the president after the first session of the cabinet.

Sonko, who is a close ally of Faye, said when announcing his cabinet on Friday that his government's priorities will include youth employment, reducing the cost of living and protecting human rights.
